The Open

The Open Championship is the oldest of the four major professional golf championships.
 
The Open is played the the third week in July each year at one of nine links courses in Scotland and England.
 
2012 sees The Open return to The Royal Lytham and St. Annes Golf Club for the 10th time.
 
The Royal Lytham & St. Anne's Golf Club was established in 1886 and was formally opened by The Marquis of Lorne in 1898. The Open Championship was first played at Royal Lytham in 1926, shortly after receiving “Royal Status” from King George V. Royal Lytham & St. Anne's has been a regular host ever since, with The Open returning in 1952 (Bobby Locke), 1958 (Peter Thomson), 1963 (Bob Charles), 1969 (Tony Jacklin), 1974 (Gary Player), 1979 (Severiano Ballesteros), 1988 (Severiano Ballesteros), 1996 (Tom Lehman) and 2001 (David Duval).
